Halifax announce important changes to signing into their online banking

Halifax have announced  that they are to make some more changes to their online banking in order to improve the security of their service.  This follows on from their previous security change back in April this year, and will affect how their users will sign into Internet Banking website.

The existing username and password will continue to be used, but the security questions will be replaced by a new and unique piece of security information called ‘memorable information’ .  This will be asked for when you sign into the website and needs to be;

  • between 6 and 15 characters long
  • include at least 3 letters and 1 number (not case sensitive)
  • different from any other of your other security details (username and password)
  • not contain spaces, punctuation or symbols

Once you have chosen the memorable information, you won’t be prompted to do so again the next time you sign in.  You do have one chance to defer setting this information, but your next login will force you to select something.

We think that this is a good change to their security setup, as the previous process asked for specific information which could potentially be gleaned by others such as place of birth etc.

For further information and help, Halifax have a page setup here.

Halifax as far as I’m concerned are stupid. Just trying to make us pay money to their dumb service by constantly calling them for hours without no resolve. Maybe ask the customers what they think about your dumb idea before you just do it. How hell we meant to remember or know the memorable information. Would be handy if we at least had it sent to our email/mobile or something.

It always works fine with me. You always need to make sure you are using exactly what you set up as your memorable information and confusing it with any of your security question answers.

I am having the same problem and this has happened on numerous occassions. I went in to the log in page and typed in my username and password and it kept saying it was wrong. So then I had to annoyingly reset the password. Got sent the email followed all the steps typed in the temporary password so carefully still not worked. I must of requested 3 new passwords in two days. It is so annoying that I can’t log in. It keeps saying password is wrong but it is not wrong it’s the one you have given me!!!!!!! SORT IT OUT HALIFAX!!!!!!!!!!

I think this new memorable information is stupid. I chose my memorable information and now whenever i log it it tells me to choose 3 characters from what i chose and when i do chose 3 characters it doesnt log me in! It says what i chose was wrong? I do know what my memoorable information was and what letters and numbers were in it, the log in just doesnt work! It’s absoloutly a load of rubbish.
